Let me be very honest here, I’m an early boomer. I barely knew people used twitter before this course. But look at me now, I find the best memes on twitter. So I’m basically tweet tweeting my way out of the boomer title. Moreover, how cool is it to tweet for a course? Watching movies during a lectures is the icing on top.
“Our future success is directly proportional to our ability to understand, adopt and integrate new technology into our work.” This quote by Sukant Ratnakar, an author inspired me to try my best despite having less to no knowledge on twitter to operate it and tweet efficiently like my classmates. I’ve started to make friends from other countries on twitter too, seems like it’s an easier version of Instagram.

The above tweets are one of the finest I made for this class.
My very first tweet with the #BCM325 was an announcement on watching Metropolis, the little information I had on it and expressed my excitement. My other tweets following this one was to give more information about the movie and my two cents about it.

I also incorporated gifs to bring my tweets to life and hoped they would perform better and gain more attention. I made remarks about the rich and poor based on the film which may be a little thought provoking. (these were the ones who got retweeted — more interaction)
One unexpected interaction I got on my feed was a comment from a user called “Hal 9000 Bot”. Is it real? Or was it created to interact with anyone that talks about Hal 9000 Bot from 2001: A space odyssey. I wonder if someone who watched the movie created this account to mimic the bot and give it life (at least on Twitter).Just imagine he’s real and watching everything. Haha that’s both hilarious and creepy.
Interacting with others’ tweets!
It was fun to respond to my peers’ tweets. Live tweeting made the discussion of observations more meaningful and enjoyable. Everyone had their own perspectives on things ( sometimes different than yours) which is amusing because you watched the exact same movie. Your own experience, interpretation or simply because you missed some information, the tweets from others allowed me to have a better view and understanding of the movie and my peers.
I value and enjoyed every interaction including retweets, comments, likes and private messaging. The environment created was open and great as there weren’t limitation of how one interacts or who joins.
Where to improve?
I have come a long way from my first tweet and gotten a hang of what gets more attention and became more comfortable expressing myself on the platform. Yet there are ways I can improve, which is why I will be setting myself some goals to work on.
Connection with the lecture is important and I have been lacking in that area. I shall visit the lecture again with my immediate thoughts on a notepad to make sure I am on the right track.
Preparation is important for all sorts of work including this. I need to create relevant content before the lecture and the live tweeting sessions. This will make sure I don’t miss out on good points and can make sure my tweets will get good interaction as they will be of good quality. I need to step up my game and start making notes of the interesting points by watching the movie beforehand.
I have used media like poster of the movies and gifs but not enough. I need to have more relevant media to use (which should be prepared beforehand). I shall try to ask question and make polls to engage my peers and hoping it will create better engagement I’ve seen some students using polls and memes which attracts a lot of attention from others. I will learn from that and create good memes as well as prepare questions beforehand.
