Brief Essay ( Charles Ho and Miki)

This school year has been pretty hectic but BCM 313 made things a little better. I realised I never knew myself as well as I should know, all the lessons were like free therapy sessions. Throughout week 6 and further on, we were introduced to different professionals sharing their passion and work nature. Charles Ho and Miki touched my heart the most and inspired me.

I’ve always been an outspoken and an extrovert. I am confident whenever I speak and can speak different languages such as Chinese and Urdu fluently despite having some mistakes on my end in conversations sometimes. I don’t stop trying to enhance my language abilities. I know that I’m not perfect in any language but who is? Charles believes that those who speak other languages are brave and considered more intelligent maybe that’s why my mum says I have a smart mouth hehe even though I’m not academically smart, I land on many job and life opportunities due to my willingness to speak and try.

Whenever I express to an employer in Hong Kong that I can speak, read and write Chinese as well as other foreign languages, they seem impressed and assume that I’m smart enough. Charles statement really made me reflect on why they thought so. Charles speaks cantonese normally but during his foreign trips, he tries his best to adapt and speak other languages such as Mandarine in China, he receives importance and respect for doing well and not quit learning. He gave me hope to keep going on this path and try my utmost best to learn the languages I know better.

Charles Ho

I used to be timid and back off of a lot of things in my earthly teen years, I missed out on a lot of adventurous game nights and day camps. looking back I wish I wasn’t so afraid and went to them, I’d also have good memories to treasure. I was a performer in my late teen years, the lead in drama performances and hosting important events in school, I was never afraid of walking up on stages to perform but going out of my comfort zone… that was terrifying for me. I’d have teachers and friends around me supporting me backstage but out there in the real world, no one really cares. you gotta stand out of your comfort zone and grab opportunities like Miki mentioned, our school is our safe zone, after we graduate, we have to look out for ourselves and achieve as much as we can.

Working in Wall Street Journal and being the best version of yourself is already such a big success, I wanna be as proud of myself someday like Miki and Charles are of themselves.

– Mahatma Gandhi

I wanna be happy everyday, both mentally and spiritually. learning is a process of life, we never stop learning, from school to the outside harsh world. I know I’ll stay strong and stand up for myself, I’ve been mentally preparing myself like Miki said to face the outside world soon.
