Hey beauties! I have talked about my media niche of interest and my field research on Hyram in my previous posts. Now, I’ll share my research planning as the followings:
- Problematising
- Planning
- Scheduling
Before I talk about the problems of my media Niche, let me introduce Hyram and his skincare brand for better understanding.
Why he claims to start the skin-care brand and his commitments towards his followers and Selfless by hyram users.
Hyram has always been the one influencer to use his platform to always raise awareness of different kind of social issues especially revolving those that various cosmetic and skincare products bring about. Therefore his brain will support organisations across four key areas environment, health, education and empowerment.
He claims that he started the skincare brand so As to bring a better impact to the environment and put forward great skincare. His initial launch was quite a success since all of his skincare sold out and had to be restocked from time to time. Hyram achieved his goal and teamed up with the rainforest-trust and use activated what is charity thirst project to focus on environment and health.
His company claims that for every product purchased from selfless by Hiram, you’ll directly impact these organisations, either providing a year supply of clean drinking water or protecting tropical forests from deforestation through land purchased.
Hyram posts a lot of Visual proof and receipts showing that his company has low common impact on the environment while making his products. But is Hiram just trying to profit by fooling people that his company which is Teamed up with The Inky list to launch his own affordable skincare line which is not actually really affordable and he admits it too claiming the reason for its pricing is to have the profit giving back to the environment.
The inky list is owned by be for beauty which is one of the highest growing companies rapidly increasing their product range into skincare and cosmetic world. As Hyram always mentions that the making of skincare products harms the environment a lot but he still is working with such a big brands that makes so much money off of harming the environment.
I believe that due to the company’s reputation that Hyram teamed up with, his intentions and skincare brand seems suspicious and may cause him to have hatred from other influencers in the near future for misusing his influence and profiting off of his followers. But is it true though?
Do large companies hire famous influencers to promote their products by providing them with hefty checks? Will Hyram face backlash?
- As part of my planning process, I will employ an autoethnography research plan to examine my experience in the field site engaged in my media niche. I will go through rival influencers of Hyrams Youtube channels and read articles and social media posts regarding influencers usage by skin related brands and companies. I will keep track of all the negativity that i observe towards Hyram and his brand from other people and take note of the bad experiences with Hyrams brand. I will also do research to find out whether his company actually is helping to save the environment. By doing this, i will have opinions and knowledge from different sources and expand my horizon into the research giving me better results.
- For scheduling, I will first prepare my pitch video and presentation in week 7 and have the presentation in week 8. Right after the presentation, I will consistently work on analysing different rival influencers opinions on the skincare and go through comments by users in week 8 and 9. I will start drafting my DA in week 9 and complete it in week 10. Hopefully, my DA would be ready in week 11 and ready to be shared!
